Alaska Airlines updated its Mileage Plan and members will now be able to earn mileage points by flying on Virgin America, book award travel using fewer miles, earn more miles using select global partners, and elite members are now eligible for upgrades on award travel when they book main cabin tickets.
“At Alaska Airlines, we remain committed to our miles-based program. While many other airlines are heading in a different direction and simply looking at how much people spend, we’re focused on rewarding people across the board for how much they fly,” said Andrew Harrison, Alaska Airlines’ executive vice president and chief commercial officer, in the news release. “Our combination with Virgin America, our portfolio of global partners and these enhancements to our award-winning Mileage Plan demonstrate our commitment to creating the most generous loyalty program for our customers.”
Reward flights that are less than 700 miles (one way) are now starting at a price of 5,000 miles. This rate applies to flights in the continental U.S. and Canada. Flights between 701 and 1,400 miles can now be purchased with 7,500 miles. Flights between 1,401 and 2,100 miles can be purchased for 10,000 miles.
